The Dutch artists Luc van der Hoeven works in themes. His style is varying from expressionistic to impressionistic to realistic. In his impressionistic works he shows a strong romantic and intimate atmosphere, in his expressionistic works drama is the main course and in his realistic works he mostly is searching for a particular focus, fixation and perspective of the scene he is painting.

In his works one can recognize a sense of humor without making it subject for laughing. An eye wink to the subject, done in a strong but at the same time tender way of painting.

Luc is fascinated by unusual perspective of his themes. Look at the four small painting of an old nude man. When looking at them one can feel compassion with this man: old, not very flattering without close, and all alone in the dark - loneliness without loosing dignity. This is not just an old man. It is the Xmas man.

The three still life paintings that are shown for example very well show how much the artist enjoys to paint. Simple subjects; on any ones table mabey even daily, turn into a romantic impressionistic sphere wherein each touch of the brush is sensible.

The exhibited series of mouths is a combination of impressionism, expressionism and realism - all in one at the same time. They have a confronting effect because of its unusual way of painting them.
There are much larger than real size. This already sets a certain uneasy feeling for the viewer. Each painted mouth expresses a certain feeling, mood and character. Once you have looked at them you will notice we all really do have a mouth and you even might become obsessed by that.
